Let the Tweed Shire community CHOOSE how THEIR MAYOR is elected.

I (We), the undersigned, call on the Tweed Shire Council elected body (councillors) to support a notice of motion (NOM) that will seek the approval of its electors, through a constitutional referendum to be held at the 2028 elections, to change from a mayor that is elected by councillors to a mayor elected by the electors. Approved changes will come into effect from 2032, at the next ordinary election after the 2028 election, pursuant to section 228 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Petition Guidelines 3.25 A petition can be presented to Council in writing (other than pencil), or in electronic form.3.26 Petitions submitted to council must include: a clear and concise statement covering the subject matter of the petition. The statement should state what action petitioners want Council to take; and the name, address and signature or email address in the case of electronic Policy petitions of any person supporting the petition.
